Customer: Industrial Manufacturing Company
Industry: Industrial Manufacturing and Thermal Processing
Challenge: Integrating Industrial Furnace Controls, Motion Controls, and Temperature Regulation for a New Vacuum Furnace
Jump to Section
The Challenge
An industrial manufacturing company sought to expand its thermal processing operations by installing an additional vacuum furnace. With multiple furnaces already in operation, the customer required a reliable industrial furnace controls solution to manage the new furnace’s automated functions, including precise servo movement and temperature regulation during material melting.
The goal was to establish an efficient and dependable control system that would support consistent furnace operation, accurately coordinate mechanical movement, and maintain the necessary temperature conditions throughout the melting process.
The Solution
South Shore Controls’ engineering team provided industrial controls engineering and systems integration services to support the customer’s new vacuum furnace installation. The solution brought motion controls, thermal processing controls, and other critical furnace functions together within a coordinated automation system.
The project included:
- Custom Electrical Control Panel. Supplied a dedicated electrical control panel to support the furnace’s automation components and provide centralized control of its electrical systems.
- Automated Industrial Furnace Controls. Developed and integrated a controls solution to coordinate furnace operations and manage critical functions throughout the melting process.
- Precision Servo Motion Controls. Implemented servo motion controls to manage and coordinate mechanical movement within the furnace system, supporting accurate and repeatable positioning.
- Thermal Processing Controls. Integrated temperature monitoring and regulation controls to manage furnace heating conditions and support consistent material melting.
- Industrial Systems Integration. Integrated motion controls and temperature regulation into a unified control system, allowing critical furnace functions to operate in a coordinated manner.
- Field Installation and Commissioning. South Shore Controls’ field engineers installed the control panel and connected it to the furnace’s devices and automation components. The team then tested and commissioned the system to support the startup of the new furnace.
The Outcome
South Shore Controls’ vacuum furnace automation solution provided the customer with several key operational advantages:
- Expanded Production Capabilities. The additional automated furnace supported the customer’s continued expansion of its thermal processing operations.
- Improved Temperature Consistency. Integrated thermal processing controls provided precise control over heating conditions throughout the material melting process.
- Enhanced Motion Accuracy. Servo-based motion controls supported accurate, repeatable mechanical movement during furnace operation.
- Greater Operational Reliability. Coordinated industrial furnace controls and centralized electrical controls provided a dependable approach to managing critical furnace functions.
- Improved Process Repeatability. Automated motion and temperature controls supported more consistent operation across melting cycles.
South Shore Controls’ expertise in industrial systems integration, motion controls, and thermal processing controls helped the customer expand its manufacturing capabilities. This project demonstrates SSCI’s ability to provide controls integration for new industrial furnaces, combining electrical controls, precision motion, and temperature regulation to support reliable and consistent furnace operations.
